I'm picking up a new iMac today - does anybody know how I get my LR4 software on it please? I downloaded it to my MacBook when I bought it - any ideas?

Thanks - G.

Download it again from Adobe and use the same serial number!

I believe you can install on two devices (providing they are for the same user). If you no longer want to use it on the MacBook, you have the option of deactivating it I believe.

Just transfer across using migration assistant!

No need or option to deactivate, theres not a limit on the number of installations in lr

Not on the number of installations, but one license key will only unlock it on two machines (one lap top one desk top IIRC). So if you have it on two machines and want it on a different one you have to either deactivate one of them or buy another key.

There's no options to deactivate lightroom in the same way as there is photoshop, and not the (forced) restrictions in Lightroom in the same way as photoshop. You can install as many seats as you like with LR without it stopping you. Switching to a new machine isn't against the licence terms, and unlike photoshop nothing prevents you doing so ( unlike PS which does force a deactivation

Heres the help screen from Photoshop, with the option to deactivate

and the same from Lightroom. Note no deactivation option

Why do some people post statements that are blatantly so untrue?:cuckoo:

LR has no physical restrictions on number of installations. You are only meant to install on up to 2 machines but there is nothing to stop you actually installing on as many as you want at the same time.

I like the honour system behind LR - its a shame Photoshop isn't the same. I have 3 computers I use for editing. I bought PS legitimately and can't use it on all my machines while a friend has his cracked CS5 on both his computers and his girlfriends too. Adobe are throttling legitimate users. 3-4 computers per license is hardly excessive.

I think the honour system is great too but the demand for PS is undoubtedly far greater than it is for LR and it would give the pirates an open cheque book for illegal copies.

Pirates have it anyway. I could've gotten a pirated copy easily and I could install it on my 3 computers. Its pretty galling that the legitimate (and very expensive) option is the constraining one. They should allow 3 computers or at least offer the option to extend from 2 to 3 or 4 for a lesser price than buying a new license!

I've evidently mixed it up with what I read about photoshop, sure I'd seen an option to deactivate LR. Not a particularly difficult mistake to make.
