Lightroom 4.4 painfully slow

Monday. Lightroom 4.4 running ok

Tuesday. Lightroom 4.4 so so slow. Like 2 minutes to export one file and to view an image at 1:1 over a minute to load. Nothing changed on pc just was fine one day and not fine the next? Any suggestions?

Pc spec:
Intel i7-2670qm @2.2ghz 6gb ram nvidea GeForce gt 635m

This is more than enough and hard drive has 200gb free of 300

Anything else running that's consuming resources? What does Task Manager's 'Processes' tab have listed as using all the CPU and Memory?
 
Virus infection? Have you carried out a full scan. Use Malwarebytes Anti Malware free as it often picks up infections other (paid for) scanners miss.
 
Scan revealed nothing.

I have noticed that this problem started the moment I introduced a D7100?
 
Hard drive saying 4%at highest rate?
 
Download and run Microsoft's Sysinternals Process Explorer, which is a sort of super Task Manager which really shows what programs are running.
The basic Windows Task Manager is useless for showing up what background programs (if any) are running.

Also visit the Adobe pages for Optimizing Lightroom and see if any of the suggestions there are of help.
 
Based on today's experience(!) I found LR and Photoshop going ever slower - disgustingly so. It turned out to be a dying hard drive which handled the cache and scratch disks respectively. I moved both Cache and scratch to another drive and retired (ie. removed the dead hard drive). Things are leaping along once more. Phew! Thank goodness everything was backed up so I was able to sort things out in fairly short order with no losses (fingers crossed).
