I've looked in the help but I'm still not sure about this....

If I read it right you can have defaults specific to the camera serial number and the iso used. I currently have them set as I was using in LR2. Working my way through a batch of pictures in LR3 I seem to be changing the noise setting by a similar amount for the same iso.

So if I save current settings as default on a 100 iso picture do I just do it again with a 400 ,800,1600 etc picture with different noise adjustments? Don't want to lose the settings I have now by messing about too much and having to reset.

The simple answer is yes, you can make as many presets as you like, just call them 400 iso noise or whatever and then apply them as needed.

+1..;)
Please remember the Noise and Sharperning are better in LR3, so if you import any files that were edited in LR2 you might have to back off the settings a bit..;)

Good point!

Not talking about presets though (I think)

Lightroom has default settings for the slider positions in develop. At any time in the develop module you can can go to the develop menu item and choose 'set default settings'. From then on any time you import new pictures (without choosing something during import etc) the sliders will be in those positions when you start editing.

What I'm asking is how to set it up so that when I import a bunch of mixed iso pictures each one will have the appropriate default noise setting applied before I start editing. Guess I'll just have to try it.

Just got round to trying it and it does work how I thought :)

I just took a series of pictures from 100 iso up to 25600 and for each one I adjusted the noise settings but left my other defaults alone.

Then whilst in library I went to edit >preferences >presets tab and ticked make defaults specific to camera serial no and iso.

For each of my different iso pictures I then went to develop and for each one on the develop menu clicked 'Set default Settings' and OK.

Now when I import all the sliders are where I normally have them to start with and the noise is adjusted at a reasonable starting point for the iso used - whatever the iso may be.

Thanks Robert, that's exactly what we have just been discussing on one of the sports threads.

I'll post a link to here rather than C&P! :)
