I've just bought LR. My wife and I both edit photographs. We each have user accounts in Windows 7. How do I get LR to place the catalog in the 'Public' folder, so we can both utilise it?

I thought each of us running LR from our user accounts would result in a difference between the two catalogs, one in her pictures folder, one in mine.

Or have I totally misunderstood how LR catalogs work?

I tried new catalog, but it didn't give me the chance to select its location. It defaulted to my user account's picture folder. I'll try again.

Edit: When you start LR without a catalog being present and choose to create a new default catalog, it doesn't give you the option to define its location. it defaults to the 'My Pictures' folder of the user account you're logged into.

If you click 'choose a different catalog', then 'create a new catalog', it then gives you a chance to define its location.

Thanks for the help.

Try copying and pasting the catalogue you use into an area both accounts can access, and then go onto each account and double click it, because I'm sure there's an option of which catalogue to open when LR opens, so just set it to that one or the last open one.

I created the catalog in the public user's picture folder, whilst logged in as 'me'.

I'll start LR logged in as my wife and try to point it to the same file...
