Can anyone recommend a good book that will give me a good understanding of the features of lightroom 3 ?

Martin Evening's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book will teach you almost everything there is to know about Lightroom and is the best, IMO.

If you want something lighter, you could try Scott Kelby's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Book for Digital Photographers but beware his awful sense of humour.
