Lightroom 3 adjustment brush.

I'm very new to LR.

I've got a number portrait shots (taken in a confined space) and I want to edit out some objects - mainly corners of my background lights (which are black).

I'm using the adjustment brush (exposure) and setting the exposure, brightness and contrast to max. This seems to a good job, but on closer inspection the dark black objects have not been completely removed.

Any ideas please

If you are trying to get rid of objects, use the spot removal tool, not the adjustment brush. Adjust the size to as small as you can and use it several times if you have to.

I'd still like to get my head round why the brush doesn't quite bin dark objects.

I wonder if it is because the objects you are trying to remove are pure black and have no other colour in them ?

Try using the histogram to see if this is the case?

If using the Adjustment brush, make sure you have Auto Mask Enabled to preserve the edges

I don't really think that it is intended for that. I use it for upping or lowering the exposure on selected parts which are over/underexposed.

Yep, it's more like the dodge and burn tools in Photoshop.

Lightroom isn't really a pixel-level editor. The spot removal tool itself is relatively crude, though it suffices most of the time.
