Since installing the 1.1 upgrade lightroom has started to consume over 90% of the cpu, slows to an absolute crawl and I can barely do anything with it. This didn't happen straight away, only after a few days and it is now doing it on my laptop and desktop. I didn't have these problems with lightroom 1.0.

I also get the crash on startup that Janice is experiencing.

Anyone else having these problems or know of a fix for it.

I'm going to resort to reinstalling v1.0 on my laptop for the time being so that I can at least keep working until I can get it fixed. Hopefully adobe will release a quick update.

Im using 1.1 now........but cant remember how i fixed it......im so sorry!

I just reinstalled 1.1 on my desktop and that is still the same -cpu crazy right from loading application. I've just down-graded to 1.0 on my laptop and that is now working fine.

I don't want to downgrade on my desktop as that is where my master photo library is. I'll just use the laptop for all editing for the time being.

I think i read some where, in that when you put 1.1 on it regenerates all the thumbnails for all you files in its library, so if you have a lot of files in the library it will be regenerating all them.

You hit the nail there Marcel - now that I think of it the performance problems started when I turned on auto-write XMP. However that doesn't explain the performance problems with my laptop where the catalog is less than 400 images.

Thing is I like having the XMP files, it gives me extra security should the lightroom catalog screw up. I'll turn it off for the time being and hope that adobe fix it in the future.
