Lighting setup

I'd describe it as good value rather than a good kit.
This particular kit is sold by a lot of different people under a lot of different names, Stable Imaging seem to be the cheapest supplier which makes them good people to deal with, especially as they have a reputation for very good customer service.

It's worth remembering that it's actually easier to get good results if you have better tools, and you may find the lack of an interchangeable reflector frustrating as your lighting skills improve and you want to use creative tools that aren't available for that kit.

But, as I said, it's very good value for money.

cheers for that input.

I'm happy to sell up later down the line and re-invest in better equipment as i myself get better.

Any ideas on backgrounds - ie materials, set-ups etc.

Cant really comment on the light kit as I dont know anything about it.

Backgrounds, I would choose paper roll, grey. if your shooting upto 3/4 length and have the room you can make a grey roll darker or light fairly easy.
Also the gels will work better on grey than white.

If you have to go with a cloth backdrop make sure its ironed :)
also if you can get a large cardboard roll and roll the cloth onto it, that should reduce the amount it creases.

room wise - although my front living room is used (mainly kids toys) these can be moved out giving me plenty of room.

If anyone can rocommend other lights set-ups, maybe ones that also come with background etc, i'd be happy to consider them.

other light kits
for light use the dlite kits are good.
The lencarta kits a supposed to be quite good, if I didnt have the dlite I may have considered those.

Best to buy background etc seperatly

I have the Stable Imaging kit and for a home set up I'm happy with it.

:)

i don't suppose you could stick up some pictures of your set-up and maybe a few pictures it helped produce?

No worries if you can't.

the background support from lencarta is a nice bit of kit very sturdy

if thats how much money you have then go for it, build quality will be a bit dodge but thats not an issue as you aren't abusing them at events or relying on them too much

for backdrops I really like paper, but a support system and cloth might be a more easily stored system in the home
