As some of you may know I head up a motley crew of journalists at a publishing company. Unfortunately, many aren't blessed with an inquisitive mind regarding photography so in a bid to get them up to speed with using flash, I'm after a good book that explains the whole shebang - how flash is used; how different light sources create different 'kinds' of light; how flash affects exposure; how to work out flash power... and so on...
I have Joe McNally's Hotshoe Diaries, but alas, I think that's a bit informal and dependant on some knowledge of flash - the guys I'm dealing with just see a flashgun as something that's attached to a camera and not a tool they can get creative with.
I am in the process of putting together a revised PDF booklet on photography that I created for work some time ago, but in the interim, a book produced by a professional outdoor flash user would be great - any suggestions?
