I am doing pregancy portraits for my cousin tomorrow night. So as close to perfection as possible is definitely on the table here. I have just spent a good amount of money on a great new lens (which I love) and a muslin backdrop. I wanted to have the effect of a softbox light...but I don't have enough money this month to make that happen. Does anyone have some suggestions on how to recreate this effect with other types of standard lighting? Or perhaps a "jimmy-rig" sort of set up I can make in a pinch? Any suggestions are appreciated...no matter how silly they may sound. :)

Thanks for the help!

Well...these photos are going to be VERY modern. She will be barely dressed and we don't really have a garden where people can't see in...lots of trees, but not really enclosed enough. I don't think she will be comfortable, so we have to do it indoors. But that is a great idea, if she weren't so modest about her body...;)

500W floodlight or two from B&Q. shoot in raw so you can correct the white balance. Kill all other sources of light. Use a bed sheet as a diffuser if need be.

Thanks for the advice...these are great ideas. Keep them coming! Thank you!:)
