Lighting kit for portraits

I am looking for a lighting kit that would make for some decent portrait shots of the kids/family etc.

I have about £200 to spend at the moment but maybe able to stretch a bit more.

Does anyone have any recommendations or any tips would be great

I was looking at this EBAY, But its probs crap

The which flash system post at the top is worth reading, I'd have some reservations about the eBay kit (ignoring things like consistency/reliability):

While you get a lot (you could spend more on 1 branded softbox) but it will have very poor resale value as it's unbranded, I couldn't see any mentioned of its connector type so I'm assuming it doesn't provide you any real upgrade path if you want to use different light modifiers (strip, octagon, beauty dish, barn doors, back light reflector etc).

Have you considered second hand equipment? There's plenty of kits floating around from those who've dabbled and changed their mind.
