Hi all, a friend who is an interior designer is asking about lighting for taking pictures of her work. It will be full room shots. I don't know a great deal about lighting so decided to ask here.

I'm thinking using the rooms lighting and natural light is the best way to show off her work, and also a flash with a soft box to help.

Would anyone agree with that recommendation and can they recommend any suitable equipment (preferably cheap), would you use it with the flash mounted on camera or on a flash stand?

Very simple. Use the natural or artificial light the room is normally lit with. That's the only way you'll show the room as the designer intended. Camera on tripod - job done. :)

You know what, sometimes something is so obvious I just don't see it.

And thanks for the link FITP, some lovely shots in there and useful information.

I've offered to give them a quick lesson in manual mode on a tripod, they don't know a great deal about photography but at least with interior photography its nice and static so they can experiment.

Bounce some fill off the ceiling maybe to help make the lights/windows look good, as you can then dial in the lights/windows independent of the ambient with the shutter speed
