We are currently contemplating purchasing a light tent cube and would appreciate some advice. We are thinking of picking one of these from eBay and have a few quick questions:

  1. Size - I know the answer will be that it depends on the size of the subject but what size of tent do people recommend? The one I've linked to is 80cm but there are also 40 and 50cm versions (and maybe others).
  2. Model - They do appear to be mostly the same but is there anything we need to look out for in the spec?
  3. Price - They seem cheap on eBay. Are they too cheap? - will we regret not buying something more substantial in the future?

Your thoughts would be appreciated

Peter

NB to moderators - Apologies if I've I shouldn't be posting a sales link. I'll be happy to remove it if necessary

Light tents are one of those gadgets that have saturated the market, with the result that prices have gone through the floor, so don't worry that it's cheap.

Size: You really want one that's big enough for the subject to be at least 10" from the nearest 'wall', otherwise the edges will be a lot brighter than the subject.

With suitable lighting, light tents can produce clear, easily produced photos of many different types of products. The lighting can't be controlled well and they produce illustrative rather than selling shots, but if that's all you want then a light tent will do the job.
