Hey guys. Apologies if this has been asked before....

I've been reading up on various sites such as Strobist etc, and now I'm ready to invest in a bit of equipment. I've got a Canon 430 exii and a Cactus V4 trigger set that I've had for years yet never properly used off camera. Now I'm looking for a stand, adaptor and shoot-through umbrella (unless anyone recommends anything different) to start on playing with positioning and effects o both portraits and products.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Really depends on what you want to be shooting and your budget of course

What Les say's really, particularly budget. cheap lightstands are great for learning, but soon they get frustrating. A shoot thru brolly is the easiest start, but in a small space the stray light can diminish the learning. A reflective brolly can be put higher than a softbox or shoot thru brolly which can be handy in a domestic room with low ceilings. A reflective brolly with a softbox diffuser could be the cheap / easy solution to that, but without details it's hard to say.

Thanks both. Les has offered me a Westcott setup which sounds an ideal starter - it has the shoot thru brolly with the option of a black/reflective cover. Hopefully I can then adapt to a softbox in the future. Essentially it's just meddling at this stage so I'm sure it will be ok.....
