Light stand

I don’t think you will be able to do that with just one stand. The Lencarta air damped stand goes from 1 m to 2.5m and is very stable. And now there is a new one that goes from almost floor level up to 80cm

That's a shame, I would find that really useful! It explains why I can't find one anywhere though. What's the usual delivery time Garry?

There is indeed.

The manfrotto mn231b, or the Calumet copy that I have:

Fantastic stand, but it's a bit of a studio item. Though it does come apart easily and the legs fold up.

You can take it from over head height to touching the ground in less than a second. Its extremely stable, can move it around on its castors, and you can even fit two sliding arms on it for two vertical softboxes (which can run touching each other) if you want a head to toe softbox in close. Easily sand bagged. Level-able.

It's an investment though. Wouldn't be without it for family photos, from baby on floor to adults stood in one second.

Yes, they are in fact very good, they are basically a cut-down version of a studio stand. But not really portable.

I bought one of these years ago, very unstable
 
Like I said, it's a studio item. I have carted it about before now if the job was worth the coin.

It does fulfil the OPs requirements, though I suspect it's not what she's looking for.

Hmm, I paid about half what it's going for on Calumet at the moment. :-(

Thanks, if it's not very portable though I think the separate stands are going to be better for me. Thanks though :)
 
Just wanted to say, the lencarta stand that Garry recommended is perfect for what I wanted. I don't know how I managed all this time without one! I used it on Saturday for some studio shots mainly for children lying on the floor with chin on hands pose and this was ideal, I was able to get the light exactly where I wanted. I also used it today for a baby shoot and again it was much better than the standard stand as was able to get the shots I wanted of the baby lying on her tummy on the floor lifting her head up! Really pleased I bought this :)
