Yes
I have just bought a light stand today that has a 3/8 male thread, I need to buy a bracket for it to support a Nikon speedlight. I have no need for an umbrella fixing unless they all have that option as well. I would like a nice secure one and hopefully not to expensive. Can anyone point me in the right direction as I'm new to all this?

I have no idea how new you are to it so hope this doesn't come across the wrong way, but you're sure that the bit with the male thread's not double ended and can be flipped by undoing the top bolt?

Good point, but he's still going to need a coldshoe/trigger/foot though! :)

:bang:

Course he is, having one of those days and was thinking how I'd use mine, ie with wireless trigger which has a tripod socked on the bottom that I screw straight into :bonk:

This is what I've got.

Paul-- It doesn't appear to be reversible.
Steve-- I have the foot that came with the speedlight but it has a 1/4 female "plastic thread" and doesn't look up to much.
Mark-- Yes I need an adjustable bracket for the SB910 that has a 3/8 female thread that will allow the flash to swivel and angle.

I am very new to everything to do with lightstands so don't worry about talking as if I'm thick (cause I probably am) :D

Mike, that is the one that keeps showing up when I do a search but they don't screw on the stand they have a clamp system that holds it on the stand. I can't believe that there isn't one that has a 3/8 female thread! Or at least I can't find one.

Forget the 3/8 thread, that clamp will fit over the top of the 3/8 and tighten up on the centre of the brass shank in your piccy

^^^ This. It's a standard 5/8in stand spigot.

I have two of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004EK56LA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - and they work fine with the screw thread fitted directly into the base of a flash trigger or AS-19-type footplate. The angle lock is secure and it's made from good quality materials.

I've also got a couple of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000JLO6OG/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - which are bomb-proof and superb for a range of purposes.

When supporting flashes is involved, don't skimp

i have the lastolite clamp. Very secure but not cheap, but it is better than trashing the flash on the ground. The bit, whatever it is called can be turned round, to allow for two different thread sizes.
