Not actually for the purposes of photography, but this is where the knowledge will be! Need to tint a light source ruby red, was thinking about flash gels. Thing is I don't know anything about them - are they a sheet, film, self adhesive, clip on - are they even gel? I'm basically in need of a little 101 here!

Lighting gels, as in gelatine, but not made of that anymore - acetate I think. Lee, Formatt, Rosco, loads of different types, hundreds of colours and densities. Sizes from small sheets to rolls 1.2m wide. Cheap too.

I just got some Roscos from The Flash Centre, next day delivery

Couldn't see a lot on their website of any use - unless I was on the wrong site. Have you got a link?

Basically I need a flash gel equivalent of a 25a filter

25a on a light source?

You doing some infra-red work??

Your mean The Flash Centre? Go to the Rosco website, see what you want, then order through TFC over the phone. Same With Lee, or another retailer. I think Formatt sells direct.
