wonder what the nasa news conference about mars will be about .are we really all descended from quatermass's grasshoppers .

ah well looks like there might be water on mars ,water jim but not as we know it .
on a different note i thought about going to mecca once ,but being a bit mutt and jeff i can't hear them calling out the numbers properly ,the ma in law always used to win though :banghead:
Err who is jokingJokes not allowed in this thread!
Err who is joking
1 water in the form of frozen ice has been found on Mars .
2 I once nearly went to the Mecca bingo
3 I really do suffer from high frequency hearing loss
4 my dearly departed MA in law used to win big on bingo
And finally I really couldn't give a toss about a disaster in Saudi Arabia something else will inevitably happen soon and in six months you will be scratching your head to recall this event .at least when the titanic sunk it was worth a few good movies ,this won't be
Water in the form of ice has been known about on Mars for decades.
You can see the ice caps yourself on the right night and a decent pair of bins.
Yesterday the announcement was regarding the existence of liquid water.
Possibly.
Maybe.

The ice caps are composed of carbon dioxide ice.
No, water = H2O, a compound which can exist in a number of physical states. Since the importance of the announcement related entirely to the physical state (the presence of the compound being already known), it was a useful clarification.Liquid water! only a scientist could come up with that pretentious gem.
water = water
Frozen water = Ice
I guess it should read "salty" and they can deduce that from spectrometry. And the latest is that apparently its "saltly" how the hell do they know that?
I guess you can't read Martian then?I guess it should read "salty"
Yes they are. "Salt" in its true chemistry definition, not specifically table salt. AHill will be most upset.I very much doubt they're using "salty" to describe what we (as Joe Public) think of as salt water and are using the term to describe the water as containing dissolved salts in a much more general way. I did read which salts were thought to be involved but can't remember the technicalities!

As will "saxa" they missed a great marketing ploy thereAHill will be most upset.
Its a bit like that game where you change one letter to form another word.Having disgraced this forum for some years now, I thought I had seen some mind blowing taking threads off topic. But, how the hell have you got from a stampede at a religeous festival to the alleged saltiness of alleged water on Mars...................![]()
And Mars. They could do a special edition with salted caramel. As will "saxa" they missed a great marketing ploy there![]()
The original topic was starting to run a little thin on posters advertising their ignorance. Changing topics has opened it up to many more to embarrass themselves. TP is very democratic like that.Having disgraced this forum for some years now, I thought I had seen some mind blowing taking threads off topic. Well it would be, however .......................there ya go thread back on track

Like I said, advertising ignoranceLike I said. Pretentious...![]()

According to the Meme's on face book, yes.
No but Slough isn't that far away...the home of the Mars Bar!I didn't realise Mars was so close to Kent!
Last I heard it was in SloughI didn't realise Mars was so close to Kent!
Too much salt is bad for you. I'm staying here.Yes they are. "Salt" in its true chemistry definition, not specifically table salt. AHill will be most upset.

Now if they find pepper...
