Ok, I finally got my mobility scooter (it's more like a small car without the body), and it's a beast. It's so big and heavy you can't lift it, and it is capable of almost all terrain. I've had it out on a couple of test runs along the back roads/tracks that are behind my house. Trouble is they are mainly flat un scenic areas.

It's my 31st birthday on Saturday, and the hubby has decided to hire a van for to weekend, all being well on availability. So this means we can go out for the day (staying over somewhere is not an option at the moment). Distance is not really a problem, but keeping it to about a maximum of 3 hours travel one way is ideal.

So where do we go? I live in Kirton, Boston, Lincs ... help me plan a route/destination please:D.

I like:

Hills
Mountains
Rivers
Waterfalls
Streams
Woodlands
Wildlife.

All of those things have previously only been viewable from the car passenger seat so far! (well for the last 4/5 years anyway). If we can get a few, if not all of those in one place it would be ideal. We have been to the Peak District, Norfolk and Yorkshire Coast. Ideally I'd like to try somewhere new. If not, I'd love a few tips on beautiful locations in those places that we might not have known about or visited before.

There will be plenty of pictures taken as a reward for your viewing pleasure  I'd also like to get a couple of stunning shots of my scooter on top of a hill, or mountain with dramatic backdrop. These will be sent to my local mobility shop, and the scooter makers as a big thank you for their help.

Is it possible to strap a couple of skis to it,clamp your camera on somewhere and run over some chavs on stolen sledges with it?

Though you have just reminded me that the snow is supposed to return this weekend isn't it? Hmm.

Hi Jo

I can't help with any locations as I'm over in the west country, but I wanted to congratulate you on getting mobile, and wish you a happy birthday.

In fine weather, I'm self propelled, but usually stuck in the passenger seat as well. You have some nice work on your site. Have a good day out where ever you go.

its snowing like heck in Northampton Jo !

Oh! Nice to look at I bet. Hmm, I'm slightly worried the weather is going to put a stop to any plans now :( I need somewhere that doesn't have snow.

:$ Thank you! It's taken a long time to get this sorted. Now I just have to find a way to deal with my agoraphobia  I'm just going to take each day as it comes I think.

Lincoln is great city full of photo ops and has a hill that will test out the new wheels as well

How about heading up to the Lakes. Ullswater is beautiful. Off there myself tomorrow. From Boston should only be a couple of hours. Will take me 3 from the Midlands. Happy Birthday for Saturday BTW :)

I go to Lincoln quite often as my mum lives in Notts. So we take a detour usually. So I can go to Lincoln anytime really. But thank you :)

TBH that might be a bit far, and IIRC it's about 3.5 hours on a good run from Boston. We go a couple of times a year if we can as it's where we spent some of our honeymoon :D I'm also not so sure it would be wise going this weekend due to the snow  Have you seen the weather this morning on GMTV?!

Edit: Route planner says ... Distance: 181.3 miles Time: 3 hr 51 min and that's taking a direct route, we usually like to take the A66 on the last part of the journey.

The weather's supposed to be ok up there at the weekend but we'll see how it fairs tomorrow. After I'd written it I suddenly thought Boston Lincolnshire is going to be a good way from the Lakes :bonk:Sorry Jo got my areas mixed up for a minute there. Well wherever you go hope the weathers fine for you and you have a lovely day :)

What about the Peak District, some great scenery and not too far from Boston.

No problem. I'm terrible geography wise myself, and I'm surprised I could even remember that!

Thanks EdBray, like I said in my op I have been to the Peak District, numerous times in fact. We usually drive up to Ladybower, then work our way down towards Matlock and then on home. Apart from the scenery around Ladybower and that route down through the Peeks to Matlock, can you suggest anywhere else in the Peeks that holds some, if not all of those things I enjoy?

Edit: This is our usual route through the Peak District, so any ideas on other nice location would be welcomed. Though I think the far west side might be a little too far to go.

For places in Derbyshre, you could try something such as:

Monsall Head and Monsall Dale, off the A6 between Buxton and Bakewell, visiting the river at ashford in the Water. Take in Tissington and Dovedale too.

Goyt Valley to the North of Buxton.

Castleton, especially beautiful in the snow, including Winnats Pass.

For Woodland, possible move over into North Notts, and have a look around Clumber Park. You will find even off the main routes, its quite accessible.

If you want any info on any of these areas or more Derbyshire places, you are welcome to PM me.

How about the lovely city of York?

Or Lichfield in Staffordshire is about 3 hour awy.

Beer Festival this weekend and the Cathedral is good.
