Can't be bad, might be worth a look in :)

I thought I would have a look, and as I do not have any form of camera bag it seemed decent enough to get for the time being. As I prefer messenger style bags anyway and will probably get on of those, this also gives me the option of a backpack.

First impressions are that it has pockets and dividers everywhere, which is really nice, but the shoulder straps are flimsily padded and not adjustable at the top of the bag so carrying any weight would get painful after a while. There is also an optional shoulder strap so you can carry it by your side, though with the same level of padding.

Though not waterproof itself, there is a compartment at the bottom containing a raincover which you can place over the bag. Unlike better ones where this is sewn into the bag, here it is a loose item like a large showercap. Also it is a different colour (or at least mine is). I bought a dark blue, almost dark grey, the other option was more like a russet apple, yet the raincover is slate.

I have not tried loading it up yet but for me it might end up just being a way of storing all my gear at home, thankfully I do not have that much. Though that would be a vast improvement on my current system of using a totally unprotected shoebox and so worth the money.

As usual with Lidl stuff, you know that you are going to be getting something cheap but that does the job, and I think this bag is no different. It will not impress a professional but will do a job.

While there I also bought one of there £4.99 camera bags:

Again nothing fancy but something I did not have. A Canon 30D with Sigma 17-70 lens attached (and reversed hood) is a tight fit but it does fit, even with the Canon shoulder strap folded inside. At the moment I usually have the camera floating around inside the main compartment of a normal backpack, so use some nested carrier bags for padding. This seemed a much better option for carrying that way.

Michael.

Had a look myself today, mij has it just about spot on, the collection of pockets is very good but it's small, smaller than the Hama and the Samsonite bags reviewed elsewhere here.

Sorry, please ignore last message. There is an offer of a free Lowepro backpack with a subsciption to Digital Camera at the moment. For what its worth i've subscribed

I did that with practical photography last year in order to get the rucksack thingy. Somewhere in the small print, it said those magical words 'subject to availability'.... I ended up with another bloody tripod :(

hmm, just about get my sandwiches in that never mind a camera.

I succumbed and bought one. Agree with mij's comments. I'd only use a rucksack a couple of days a year so it's good enough. As I'd mainly have the camera and a lens in hand the remaining weight should not be too bad. Definitely not the most comfortable of bags to carry though.

Just tried it and I can get the 20D with 100-400 fitted + reversed hood in to the bag along with 580EX one side and 2 smallish lenses the other side. So it will hold all I'll need it to. Main zip is stiff as it turns a corner.

There were plenty of them didn't look like they had sold many. Think I must be a snob...there is just something about lidl stores :)

Okay, so I have loaded it up now, and it was a tight fit to my meagre offerings.

Some of the dividers were left out, while batteries and cards went into one of the outer pockets, my Gorillapod SLR Zoom would not fit anywhere. There are straps on the front of the bag to hold a tripod, but it would need to be a pretty compact model, I think mine would crush it!

On the top front pocket, which looks shallow but it actually the entire depth of the bag, has a plastic badge with a picture of headphones on it. On further inspection this protects a whole in the bag through which you headphones can pass so you can protect your CD/MP3 player inside.

If only they made a bigger model, with all the pouches I really quite like it. The day I buy another lens or a flash though it will become redundant.

Michael.

P.S. Let the halos in the picture be a lesson in why you always should fade sharpening to just luminosity afterwards.

You know I have given myself a ticking off several times today over this.
Im planning a new bag but, at the mo am quite desparately in need.
However, theres just something so wrong about putting a 5D & L glass into a Lidl bag!

I know, I know!
Go on someone ... just slap me! :bonk:

with pleasure Glo ;)

Only you would ever know where it came from.

I have a lowepro mini trekker and it doesn't hold a great deal more.....but cost a shed load more

Ok DF ... Now I know for a fact you could make me a very happy woman. :naughty:
So, heres the plan ....

I go buy said Lidl bag, you swap it for your Mini Trekker ... which incidently is what I want.
And you get a luverrly, brand spanking new bag ... with loads of room I hasten to add ... and DF... only you & I need know! ;)

I have purchased one of these from Lidl - looks well made enough, soooo many pockets! I am replacing a small lowepro something, which cost me £20. Now I have room for more lenses :D

sounds like a plan glo, the dog has chewed 3 of the buckles on my trekker :D

Id had visions of it having a decent design but being made really flimsy.
However, being as theres a few good reports coming in, I may hunt out a Lidl & go check for myself.

Three buckles missing? Might see you at the Lidl checkout then, eh DF :D

got one this morning too.

Try wd40 (just a little) and it frees up the zipper very nicely.

I am no snob just a working class average joe who knows a bargain when he sees one.

Better yet, run a soft pencil along the zipper, the graphite will lubricate it and won't smell like wd40 does :)

just poured WKD 40 on by mistake ..........

Now me and my bag smell like the local JD 'Spoons...

This has been said "price is not a good indication of quality". The lowepro may well be made by the same people/factory in some far flung corner. Although not a true comparison, there's a food recall (glass)affecting Asda, Birds Eye and Sainsbury’s all produced in the same Irish factory. At least one of those will be charging a premium.

Just got back from dryslope skiing with my Lidl bag on and full of camera gear, fell over just the once and all seems to be well. It is absolutely teeming down around here and I did not have the waterproof cover on but all is dry inside.

IMHO this must be the camera bargain/photography of the year. (even beating some of the free ones)

Oh by the way Lidl canned chopped tomatoes are as goood as anyothers and cost half the price. If you like Italian ragu sauces or chilli con carne these are a must.

and, you don't get that really annoying voice saying "Norr Ragu"

Ok, I took my snob hat off & went to Lidl & purchased the bag.
I agree that there's loads of room, pockets etc but Im still in 2 minds about it.

Personally, Im not keen on the shiny blue fabric, it feels a bit cheap, and the main zip gets stuck on either side as it hits the rounded corners.
If running a pencil over the zip solves the zip prob, for £20 Ill keep it.

Well done m8, you've taken the first step,no stopping you now. Deep breath Aldi next ..............

It's a 20quid bag what do you expect.

Word of caution to all- don't be tempted to cram all your gear into one bag, only makes it easier for some light fingered ***** to steal your hard earned.

The Pizza di Pomodoro ones? They are more watery than the more expensive brands. I guess it depends on what you are making but I prefer a thicker liquid.

Michael.
