Yes
I'm not very good at these, but it needs to be done!

I'm Pete currently living in sunny Berkshire before I clear off to New Zealand, Bali and then Japan in about a months time for about 9 months or so.

I've had a few point and shoot cameras over the years and was mainly happy just taking snaps, last camera was a Sony bridge job and I've now just taken the plunge and bought a D7000, just waiting for it to arrive and then I can lock myself in a room for a few days and read the manual! I plan to take plenty of pictures with it whilst reading to try to get to grips with its intricacies as soon as possible, though I'm sure I will be learning for a very long time yet!

The main reason I've taken the leap to a dslr is that I want to take good pictures underwater and whilst in bali I hope to get the camera out as often as possible. Of course when not diving I'll be hoping to take many pictures topside.

Hi Pete, And welcome aboard TP, looking forward to hearing from you and maybe seeing some of your images on the various forums. "Enjoy".

Welcome Pete, it sounds as though your in for quite a time out there, you will soon get to grips with the new kit.(y)

Hello Pete :welcome: enjoy your trip ;)

Thanks all. I'm in for a steep learning curve, but it's going to be fun I think. Camera should be here today!

Hi Pete and a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :) and your new purchase

Oh, and enjoy your holiday later in the year :D

Thanks It won't be all holiday sadly. I'm working in NZ, then doing a course in Bali followed by work in Japan.

Got the camera and a lens through and have been doing a lot of manual reading and playing with settings, oh and taking some pictures as well of course!

Well I'm sure there are worse places to work and do courses :D

Definitely look forward to seeing some of your images. I spent a few weeks in Japan last year; I got invited to do a lecture for Toyota in Nagoya. I absolutely love the place. Cannot wait to go back.

Anyway, welcome onboard.

I was working in Japan last winter and I'm going back to work for the same employer this winter, very much looking forward to it again. I might stop off in Tokyo and see if I can pick up any second hand kit bargains. Just not sure what prices are like in Japan for photography gear.

Hi skir67

I only went to a couple of shops and both in Tokyo and both selling used gear. Thought the prices were very cheap. Was not seriously looking to buy at the time so did not though.

Hope you have a great trip.

Gary

Good to know. I spent a little time looking at tokyo shops online. The prices in the main 'camera district' don't look fantastic to me. But a couple of the sites for shops outside of that area I looked at had better prices. The selection available is though fantastic.
