You need any lens that has an internal focusing motor. Nikon versions are tagged with the 'AF-S'. 'HSM' is the Sigma variant. Tamron is tagged 'IF' I believe.
Here's a list of Nikkor and Sigma's I just found (I didn't check to see if this were all of them):
Any of the 50mm to 105mm macro lenses are great for that which you need. The Nikon lenses have, generally, better resale value .. otherwise they are all sharp and get the job done very well.
Honestly, I don't do much macro... any at all actually. From what I've read about the subject, however, prime macros are the way to go. 60mm macro, 105mm macro, etc...
And if i bought a lens for my D60 that does not have the autofocus motor built in, how easy is it to manual focus the lens? Is a skill that is worth learning?
Sorry if this sounds a bit basic but i'm on a steep learning curve!
It depends what you are shooting and with which lens. Shorter focal lengths and smaller apertures make it easier, moving subjects make it tricky.
It's probably worth learning, but AF systems keep getting better and there's no point looking a gift horse in he mouth.
