Mornin All,

Due to a slight problem with my good ol' 300/2.8 NON IS and the now missing distance scale window exposing the internals to the elements i was thinking of getting a lenscoat to help protect the gaping hole. Short of ordering from the US does anyone know of a decent UK supplier - not WEX as the have none for the NON IS in stock - or a reliable non UK one. Im not happy about using it until i can come up with a solution to cover the hole!

Alternatively, has anyone got any genius ideas???:D

Cheers

Try Kevin Keatley at Wildlife Watching Supplies. They make similar covers in the UK. I use them on my 300/2.8IS and 500/4IS and he is able to do "specials"

I think WHE are the only UK supplier

"Erding" has a 300/2.8 IS version for sale here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=101453

I suspect that the thread may only be locked to overcome the rule on the number of open threads as it's still advertised on another forum.

I'm sure that the fit will be very close...a few extra holes for the IS button group.

Bob

Edit...he's also down in Kent so he may be close enough for a fitting session.

small piece of plastic over hole then small piece of gaffa tape, as long as the paint under the tape isnt chipped or damaged if REMOVED CAREFULLY it will come off without pulling the paint off. If there is any paint loss under the tape it may damage and lift the paint when removed.

Depending on the "protection" required I'd get some plastic (clear plastic bag perhaps, or some old product packaging if you need more rigidity, the kind that SD/CF cards come in) then stick it down with micropore tape / masking tape or something similar.

If you go down the lens coat route. I'd certainly give a big  to WildlifeWatchingSupplies I recently purchased one of their hood covers and was amazed just how quickly it arrived, and a top product too.

The WWS ones seem to be good, but they're a loose (ish) fit around each lens and don't seem to be exactly tailor made for a particular lens.

I've spoken to Kevin Keatley several times, he's a nice bloke and he does make top quality products, designed by the man himself.

A lenscoat will fit a lot better though and AFAIK, Warehouse Express are the only UK stockists

Thanks everyone for the pointers,

I was thinking of using something like a screen protector film cut to size plus tape and then finally the lenscoat to give me some levels of protection especially as i do a fair chunk of Motocross and other dirty sports! Although its a Mk1, i bought it shortly after it had a serious amount of refurb work so apart from some paint chips its a cracking lens and unless i find a bargain 400/2.8.... :D

Cheers
