My boss has a saying he sometimes uses..

"For those who can afford the loss.. this is a wise investment"

Uninformed opinion: It's cheap tat :)

I love this bit near the lens spec--- " Your pictures are only as good as the glass in your lens."

True, but this is an f8-f16 lens. At 1300mm, you might just pick out a plane in flight, as long as it is being lit by a searchlight!

I dont imagine anyone on this forum would have been tempted by that ( stands back and waits for the cries of " I liked mine so much I bought the company") sort of things....

You get what you pay for, so for that price it won't be great. Or probably even good.

From the reviews of Opteka SuperZooms I could find ...

Do not like that the lens "bends" in the middle where the zoom tube meets the body at full extention

quality this poor is getting harder and harder to find

It does let me get in close, but so far I haven't been able to get decent shots with it

and my favourite :D

Even with my new, beefy tripod, I had to bungie the lens (yes, with a bungie cord) and aim above what I was shooting. I had to aim it such that when I let go of it to shoot, the weight would drop it down to the correct position.

It sounds a cracker..:D:D:D

You'd be just as well to take an empty bog roll and stick clingfilm over the end. Probably better IQ.

Run, don't walk from this!

you probably get a sharper result from taking the shot at 50mm and cropping it :lol:

Yes im laughing, but beleive me i aint joking.

:nono::nono:do not buy it

The sayings 'If somethings too good to be true, it probably is' and 'You get what you pay for' spring to mind.

I think people are being a bit negative here. Sure, we don't expect the optics to be particularly good. But as far as I can tell, nobody who has contributed to this thread actually has any experience of this lens. So we don't know how bad it really is. It might be fun to experiment with. Just so long as Stephen goes into it with his eyes open.

Hmmm. I guess you haven't seen my Garden birding fun at f=2000mm. I was able to shoot goldfinches at 2000mm, f/16. No searchlight needed.

How much for a week's rental then, Stewart? About 20p? :naughty::lol:

I do know someone who's bought one, about 3 years ago. He frantically tried to get rid on Ebay, it was quite comical how desperate he was to get shot! Knocking a tenner off his BIN everyday!

I think it went for about £40, and strangely the buyer re-listed it about 3 days later :)

Its probably the same lens doing the rounds! :)
