Hi guys. I'm off to the British Grand Prix Quali in a couple of weeks and had been half-heartedly looking at rental lenses. I've now realised just how close it is!!

For those that have been; assuming someone on here has; I was origianlly looking at the Canon 100-400 to mount to my 50D. Would this be a good choice? When trackside, would I find it pretty much constantly at 400? With this in mind, might a prime (if available) be a better choice?

Also, where can you guys recommend? I've noticed some pretty hideous deposits on some sites (Calumet mainly), but LensesForHire dont have any availability on a 100-400 or 400 prime for that weekend! :(

Hope you guys can help!!

I've used a Sigma 150-500 shooting the BTCC media day at Silverstone and used the full range of the focal length, so I would recommend the 100-400.

Brilliant, thanks guys.

Lenspimp has a Sigma 50-500 available for that weekend so looking to click and order later on. Anyone have any experience of that lens?!?

And in saying that, Lenspimp have now had the lens booked out so is no longer available.

Luckily, LensesForHire have come up trumps with a non-OS Sigma 50-500 at a cheaper price, so I've jumped on it! I just hope I've done the right thing.......

:)

Lenses for Hire have an excellent reputation and I would have used them for a 300mm had they had stock, nevermind, found that Fixation do rentals and have the 300mm f4 for the bargain price of £22 + VAT for a weekends rental!

I may have to have a look into that......typical of my luck I've had an email from LFH and they can't get the 50-500 to me in time. :(

Back to the drawing board it seems!

Canon 70-300mm L lens might do if you can't get the 100-400? The 50-500 I wasn't keen on.

Downside to Fixation is you need to put a deposit down 1st time around and i think pick up from London.

I've just found that out after some investigation on their website! All these things are sent to try us!

Thanks for the recommendation of the 70-300. I'm struggling to find one of these too just at the moment, apart from the DO version which I might end up settling for! Any views on that?

Lenspimp have the Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 L IS USM for hire. I wouldn't bother with the DO version.

Thanks mate. I'm just waiting to hear back from Lens For Hire and to confirm they've not taken a payment. Fingers crossed I'm then clear to reorder! Thanks!
