Hey all,

I've recently bought a 2nd hand Canon L lens, and it's super tatty. I'd like to have it refurbished to sort the less-than-smooth zoom twist, and if possible, clean up the front glass as it's slightly scuffed.

Is this possible to get done, or do I just have to live with it?

Ta

Canon Elstree may be your friend!

It's a 70-200 f2.8 :)

Will google that, thanks mmcp42

I've googled, and found loads of references to them, but no contact details or website, can anyone help with that?

Found via google within 1 minute.

haha, wow I am great with google eh.

Thanks I've emailed fixation and will call Canon later on.

Can you report back and let us know what sort of repsonse you get, and result if you get it done please?

I've seen fixation mentioned a few times. Are they good and do they do a good and proper calibration on lenses?

I will certainly reply back with any experiences I have.

Quick update.

I just got off the phone to the Canon Service Centre (the number above). The lady said you just post them your lens with a covering letter, explaining what you need, then they will email/call you with an estimate. If you're happy to go ahead, they have a 5-10 day turnaround.

Their prices are £60/hour+vat, plus parts. She estimated a normal 'service' might be a couple of hours, plus bits. My lens is a bit more past it than the norm, so I'm expecting a few hundred, minimum.

I hope that helps, and I'll let you know if/when I post it off :)

Fixation just replied to me, saying their usual cost is £90+vat+parts.

Cheers

I've just got back from Elstree and they're looking at my MkIII and 400L f2.8.

Price is the same as you've suggested...they've always been good for me, and the agency I work for prefer them to Fixation.

Go with Elstree. Probably nothing wrong with Fixation, but I've had several items repaired by Canon and really can't fault them. If you are a CPS member turnaround is extremely fast.
