Would someone help me please. Will a sigma DL lens fit my canon eos 500d? Im very new to using the DSLR but want to improve using various lenses but sigma seem a cheaper alternative to canon. I cant ask the seller as she's selling for a dead relative. Any help would be smashing
 
The easy way to find out is to gently try it - first look at the bayonet end of the lens. It should be fairly obvious if it is the same as the lens you already have. Sigma makes lenses for many makes of DSLR cameras - it may or may not be EF (or EF-S) fit.

Instead of gently trying it (which can ruin the camera or lens) I'd compare the mount of your Canon lens with the Sigma version.

If it says it's EF mount, it'll fit.

The DL designation is an old Sigma one used on their cheap lenses, it's no longer used.

If it's really old, and Canon mount, there's still a chance it won't work on newer Canon cameras. Sigma reverse engineered the EF mount and had a lot of failures in the old days when new cameras came out.
