I have a bit of a daft question for you all.

It is to do with lenses and quality of images.

I use a Canon 20D which don't get me wrong I love as it does the job. But lens wise I only have bog standard basic kit. One of my lenses is a Canon 80-200mm EF 1:4.5-5.6 II and I was wondering if I would get a better quality, clearer image from using a Canon 70-200 f4 L?

I am looking to part with a lens I no longer use to fund "something" new..........and was wondering if I am best of going for the about lens before think about a body change?

Thanks in advance.

Think most will tell you lens before body.I made the mistake of upgrading my camera Sony A200 to a Sony A700 before learning all the ins and outs of the A200.I love the A700 though but have only just got round to being able to afford a new decent lens for it because of buying the new camera.

Yes, 70-200L 4 is a big jump up in quality from your old 80-200

If you have a kit 18-55 with a 20D, that will be the older non-IS version. The new one is much better in every respect and you can pick them up quite cheaply.

You are not quite talking night and day but certainly dusk and day between these lenses. All the Canon 70-200mm L lenses are really good and will blow you away when you see it. The AF speed is also a major improvement.

What sort of thing are you looking to shoot?

The 70-200 f/4L will be a huge jump in image quality. I recently acquired one and couldn't be happier.

Thanks
Shooting size i will say general at the mo.......i shoot a varity of different stuff. Still not found my "thing" yet.

I used to have the 80-200 II, it was pretty awful compared to the 70-200F4L which I eventually bought... 70-200F4L is a classy lens at a reasonable price.
