Hi All,
Thanks for the advice so far, Im waiting on a Tenba Solstice Sling Bag to try 7ltr and have set my camera up with advice from a few vids but I wondered about a cover for the lens.
Nikon do a NC filter but its £69  :$, so I see Hoya do two on Amazon:

Hoya 72mm Fusion ONE Protector Camera Filter £22

HOYA Protector filter FUSION One Next ø72mm £34

Would either of these be suitable do you think as I cant see a difference unless one is old stock?.

Thanks
Mark

If you feel you must have a cover, either of those - assuming the less expensive one is from a reputable seller of course.

Any Hoya filter is likely to be good quality as long as it's genuine. For what it's worth I don't see a need to use UV filters on any of my lenses, but I'm a landscape photographer so I'm not really swinging the camera about. YMMV

Thanks, its not a UV, just a cheaper option of Nikons NC cover, it seems the cheaper one is old stock.

Hoya say "HOYA FUSION ONE NEXT is a renewed series of FUSION ONE filters based on the new HOYA optical technology", which is pretty vague about the improvements (if any) between the original and 'Next' version. There's also a 'Fusion One Antistatic', which is supposed to repel dust. All of them have the important things - proper optical glass, multicoating to minimise flare, and a water repellent/stain resistant layer, which makes them easier to clean than earlier generations of multicoated filters like the old Pro-1.

Some people never use protective filters, some people use them all the time, some people use them only in wet and dusty conditions and take them off when there are light sources in the frame (like shooting cityscapes at night). Everyone has an opinion. I advise you to do whatever you like!

Thanks for the advice all.

I don't use any filters , my thought being why cover ( in some cases) a very expensive lens with a bit of cheap glass?

Just my 10p's worth not looking to start a debate

Les :)

IIRC, some lenses need the extra filter to complete their weather proofing. In normal conditions, I wouldn't use any extra filters but would consider it if there was a lot of airborne crap around.

On a personal note I use Hoya, it’s for peace of mind when cleaning as I rather clean a filter than expensive glass. Of course don’t use cheap filters as they do affect the image quality but never noticed a difference with Hoya Multi-coated but then then again my maximum megapixel count is 24mp. Retune in the above comment summed it up best.

Hi, I did buy it and it's on now, doesn't seem to affect images and a bit of piece of mind.
I'm confident it's a genuine Hoya .
Thanks again.
