I'd like a lens for some macro photography. Nothing fancy and I usually buy 2nd hand. Reasonable photos only needed.

I need to photograph objects as small as ½" / 1.5cm from above. Would like the object to fill the frame (more or less).

Will be using my Nikon D5200 in my studio using x1 Lencarta flash.

Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated. My knowledge of lenses is limited.

Dunno about specific Nikon fit kit but something between 60mm to 105mm is the sweet spot for most macro/close up work.

The Sigma 105mm is a popular choice. I've used it in the past and it's a good piece of gear.

Sigma 105 or Tamron 90 (both f/2.8) would be the budget choices with the Nikkor 105 (again. f/2.8) being slightly sharper (IME). Giving a 1:1 reproduction ratio, a 15mm object will just about fill an APS-C frame from top to bottom on a Nikon.

Another option is: laowa 100 mm macro

Laowa make a number of different macros, But you can't go wrong with the Nikkor/Sigma/Tamron either... consider extension tubes as well.
