Hi all of you. I am desperate for your advice. I am relatively new to dslr's and think that I may have come a cropper!
I am looking to upgrade my old 350d and am aiming for a 5d. To start I have just bought from eBay a 50mm EF 50mm 1:1.4 lens - this is my possible problem!
Just received the lens in the post and looks in A1 condition. However I could not find the serial number on the metal bezel but did find one on the plastic 'inner' ring. Does this sound OK to you? Have I bought a copy/fake?
Your advice is desperatly and greatfuly required. If it's not a real canon lens then I have a short window to send it back (received today 12/08/2015).
The number that I took of the plastic inner to the metal bezel is
82378256.
Thank you
Phil J

Does it work and how does it perform.

It's about as complex to make a fake working lens as it is to make the original.

Steve.

From your description it sounds as though the lens isn't new, if it were new, you could try and register it with Canon.

Some of my L lenses had the serial number on the plastic not the metal too. I didn't have that particular lens, so can't compare, but that in itself is not unusual, and according to the CPS website the serial number you have quoted is in the correct format for the model (that's not to say it is a valid number, just it has the right number of digits etc).

As Steve said above, I can't see there being much of an incentive to fake the lens, so assuming it works, I'd say you're good.

Hi Phil and welcome to TP.

Have you taken some shots with the lens and I presume it works okay - if you check the EXIF data, it should tell you what the lens is that the shot was taken with...
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)
