I am very lucky to be going to Norway later this year and am in a quandary as to which lenses to take! I have an Olympus em1 mkiii and I intend to take my 12-40 f2.4 pro and my 40 x150 f4-5.6 pro, but I have the opportunity to pick up a used 7 - 14 pro as well. Would the 7-14 be necessary and used for the type of scenery the fjords offer or would the two existing lenses I have do the job perfectly well? Is there any other micro four thirds lens, either zoom or prime that I should be looking out for? I’m not taking a tripod so everything will be handheld.

Advice would be welcome.

The nearest thing to this I've done was a trip up the Yangtse Gorges about 25 years ago, where I found that I could have done with anything from very wide angle to medium tele. Also, I imagine, you will get off the ship sometimes to explore a locality, so I would take the two you mentioned plus the 7-14pro to cover everything. It's a lot to carry, but not having one would be worse.
NB I imagine also that a tripod on a ship is pointless due to engine vibration as well as swell, so would only be used on shore.

Many thanks for your response Lindsay, I must say I am leaning towards the 7-14 , but as you rightly point out I am ramping up the weight factor for carrying all three, might have to get a bigger bag

I see that Park Cameras have the 7-14 second hand at a better price than most. I would go for it! Yes, another lens will add to the weight of the kit but it's far easier to shoot with a UWA than to stitch WA shots together to get the same AoV.

Have a great trip! Mrs Nod and I plan to do the West coast ferry trip once she retires.

Many thanks for your suggestions, I actually went for an 8 - 25 f4 pro, mainly because it is lighter than the 7-14 and can take filters.

You could leave the 12-40mm on the boat and just take the 8-25mm and 40-150mm. My problem is I'd be changing lenses every couple of shots as I zoom from one extreme to the other which is the main reason I lug the 12-100mm around.....
