Hi I currently have a Nikon D5000 body with Nikon 18-55 vr and 55-200 vr lens. Also recently brought a Nikon prime 50mm f1.4 lens which I love.

I was thinking of buying a tamron 18-270 af vc pzd lens and sell the first two lens, but I've been to try it out at Jessops and found it to have really bad vignetting. So now I'm stuck as to what to do.

Can anyone else recommend a different lens to replace both my standard lens?

Michelle

Hello Michelle,

What type of photography are you interested in? Which of your current lenses get the most use?

And....most importantly....what is your budget?

I have just purchased a used Nikkor 17-55mm for my D7000 which from my research is the best standard zoom you can get for crop sensor Nikon DSLR and although I have only taken a couple of shots with it so far I am very happy with the results, being a standard zoom this will probably be the lens you keep on your camera most of the time for a variety of styles.

I love portrait photography and macro mostly, and my budget would be around £400-450 if I were to replace the 2 x standard lenses. Since I got my prime lens it has hardly been off my camera. I use my 55-200 mostly after the prime lens.

17-55mm no good for you then, sorry what about the Nikkor 105mm micro, I was considering this but seem to have lost my mojo with macro photography, doubles up very well as a standard portrait lens.

What about a used Nikon 18-200 VR? Within your budget and is a good lens for walk around etc.

Cover both of your 18-55 VR and 55-200 VR so those 2 lens can go.

Have you used one?? Does it suffer much vignetting??

I haven't use one but only heard good things about it from *** that used it.

at 100% crop the 16-85 is sharper but i think is all depend on what do you want. The 18-200 can cover up to 200mm which is pretty good actually.

If you get the 18-200 you can sell those two kit lens

If you get the 16-85, you can get rid of the 18-55 VR and you can buy the 70-300 VR in the future to replace the 55-200 if you like a lighter setup.
