I'm just about to buy my first DSLR and I'm wondering what lens to get. I'm going to get the Canon EOS 400D and I've heard that the kit lens is pretty poor and worth replacing. So, I'm thinking of getting the body only and trying to choose between the Sigma 18 - 200 lens as one option and the Tamron 18-55 and 55-200 lenses as the second option. The Sigma option works out at about £100 more and I was wondering how the quality compares.
I'm worried that the Sigma might be too much of a jack of all trades so the image quality will be better with the two Tamrons. On the other hand I like the idea of having one lens to cover the full range. I'd really appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks.
PS - I'm on holiday in the states at the moment so the total price with Sigma lens is £500 and the Tamron option weighs in at £400.
