Lens filter for canon 28-135

Dont....

*can... meet these lovely worms*

If you must, Hoya Pro1, Hoya HD.

I'm in two minds whether to buy a filter for my Canon 70-200. I know the lens hood will protect the font of the lens and my hoods massive! But still a little nervous without one TBH.

Do you cover the front of your car in case it gets stone chipped? Do you put a filter over your glasses incase the lens gets scratched?

Unless you are doing a specific activity like rallying or war journo in Afgan, then the chances of anything damaging the front element are extremely thin. If you drop your lens, its probably fubar'd anyway, so a little thin filter isnt going to save it.

Ive had well over 20 different lenses over 10 years and never scratched a single one, and I dont treat my gear with cotton wool gloves.

Still, if you want one for peace of mind, buy one, but buy a decent one.

I don't have a hood either. Protection from dust or finger prints?

Lens hood.

Filters should only be used for artistic purposes (such as polariser, ND grads, sunset filters etc) not 'protection'.

All IMO of course.

The only time I would use a UV filter for protection is if I'm going to a beach where salt spray could get on the front element.

Other than that, lens hood.
