lens choice

you here different photogaphers taking about lens choice so i was wondering what the best choice would be for an amatuer to use for close up model style work at present im using a nikon d40

As your camera is a crop sensor, a decent 50mm would be great! The Nikkor 50mm f1.8G is a fantastic lens, and inexpensive too. What lens do you currently have though? Why do you feel it's not good enough?
