Does anyone else find lens caps a pain?

My wife complains because they're fiddly to remove and so we miss shots. I've managed to lose two.

I was thinking of something like the Optech Fast Cap:-

Are there any other options?

Lens hood on, cap in pocket ... ready to shoot :D

What gramps said. I constantly see folk wandering around with a DSLR in hand or around neck with the lens cap on, only to remove it, shoot one or two frames and then replace it. Much easier to just leave it off and use a lens hood if your worried about protection. At times folk also have the lens hood attached but reversed.

Mine either goes in my pocket or in the bag.

If you find you're losing them, buy some cheap spares and leave the branded ones in the box just in case you ever decide to sell on.

The problem is that you are taking it on and off all the time, protect your lens another way and you lens cap is just protection while not in use.

I just put the cap in my pocket and rely on the lens hood. If you're shooting in hostile conditions (blowing dust/sand/grit or spume) you might want to use a good UV filter for protection. I don't, as a rule, because I don't like them and I've never damaged a lens with the hood on, but I can see the merit in using them under these circumstances, if it makes you more comfortable.

You could also look for caps with centre pinch buttons. These are a bit easier to remove and replace if you're using a hood.

Really, what everyone else said, if your lens cap is getting in the way of you taking pictures, you have to re-examine your priorities.

Even if it's raining, my cameras electronics deserve much more protection then the lens front element, so whilst I'm loking after the camera, the lens won't get rained on.

Or if you're Mr Lemon.

Lens out of delivery van, Lens through front door, Lens out of box, lens cap in bin, lens in pocket. :D

The same as what everyone else said just use a lens hood.
Also with that link you posted I bet those caps would get annoying depending on how you hold them they would either stop you zooming or when worn in a bit the slightest wind will blow them about if not holding on to them.

In over 40 years of taking pictures I've never lost a single lens cap.

Like most, I take it off, stick it in the bag or pocket, doesn't go back on until the camera is going to sleep for the night. Never scratched or damaged a lens, or lost a cap.

I have several times - but only for a few seconds each time and I've never lost one permanently - my heart drops when I put my hand in the wrong pocket, expecting to feel a lens cap but there isn't one there - oh, but the joy when I try the right pocket afterwards! :D

I use the lens hood and leave the cap off almost all the time - even when the camera is in the bag, once I've arrived at my 'destination'; the cap only really goes on for storage and transit.

Yup. I think we've all done that.

I did think of something else...

If anyone is worried about losing a lens cap that you really wouldn't want to lose, like a branded / expensive one... something that'd affect the price of the lens if lost, just leave it at home and buy a cheap centre pinch cap off ebay for daily use.

I replaced my (centre-pinchless) Canon cap this way because I struggled taking it on and off with the hood in place without a centre-pinch.
