Hi im looking for some advice , at current i use a 300mm 2.8 is + 1.4 & 2x extenders with 7d mk ii for wildlife photography but i'm wondering if that combo with a 1dx would be better or possibly another option is 500mm f4 is with the 7d mk ii , any advice or experience on these options would be great . thanks

Albeit on Nikon...
I tried the 300 with converters and then tried a 500/4 !!! There is no contest, shooting at 500mm f4 produces amazing images and is a joy to use. If you need more focal length then I would go 500/4
I believe the cannon extenders work well with it as well
I understand the 7d2 is supposed to be a great body so I would opt for the best glass you can.

Another option is the mk2 Canon 400mm DO, its sharp and light enough for walking round all day and fast autofocus too, I've used it on the 7D2 with/without the 1.4x iii converter with great results

Given that I use the 300 F2.8 L IS, 1.4 and 2 x Mk3 extenders as well as the 1DX and 7D2 - the 1DX is the better option under most conditions.

Would the 500 F4 be a better option? If you are using extenders a lot then it is certainly the better option as it the 600 F4 or my 800 F5.6. Ideally get the lens that suits most of your needs and then use extenders to give a little more reach when needed.

Unfortunately if you need long focal lengths then it gets expensive and heavy!
