Hello.

I'm fairly new to the game, I got myself a nifty little mirrorless camera, and bought myself a m42-micro4/3 adapter so I could use some of my dad's old camera lenses.

He gave me a 70-200mm zoom lens which I'd want to use but it seems there is some kind of weird Bloom on the underneath of the lens, I know most will say it's fungus but im sure it isn't as it looks more like a grease mark or even a steam mark is the best way to describe it.

I've had the lens out and tried to clean it but it's still there, any thoughts?

Funnily enough, it is called fungus, lens fungus:

Not much you can do about it really save stripping the lens down and manually cleaning it (there are stories of treating it with UV light but I've never seen this be successful). Given it only really happens to older lenses most people don't bother and simply junk the lens.

edit: sorry, just re-read your post properly, feeling a little tired from an 11 mile run, posting some images of it will help diagnose but my money would be on fungus.

So here it is, as you can see in the centre of the lens is a strange mist/patch. I'm puzzled.1505061730280-1872416321.jpg

It is impossible to say from the picture but it looks like condensation to me. When I have seen fungus in a lens it has been decidedly thread like rather than a blob.

It's not condensation as it's permanently there, and I've had the lens out and tried to clean it.

Is it within a couple of glass elements though? If so, it might be something let off by the glue holding the elements together. Alternatively, if it is fungus (and it looks more like some sort of haze problem to me), it may have been cleaned off in the past, but only after it had damaged the coating on the glass.
