Lens Bayonet And Replacement

Out of idle intesrest, while window shopping I came across a Canon 500mm lens which is in "excellent" condition :thinking:

or so it says.

However looking at the images it certainly looks "used" which I dont mind BUT looking at the Lens Bayonet, it looks rough, like VERY well used.

So question is, would it be possble to send the lens off and get the bayonet replace?

If it can any idea of a price?

Least then all the electrical connections would be in better shape, and at the moment it is just a thought.

FWIW

I recall reading that the mk1 version is past end of life in regard to major parts availablity but surely the mount has commonality but without confirmation of the version and asking Canon (perhaps the likes of Fixation in London?) for an estimate, there can only be speculation!

Hmmmm.....It is a Canon 500mm F4.5 L USM, so yes I think just going off the title, looks like it may well be a Mk1 lens.

Is this one from ffordes? I looked at that one too, it's a great price, but getting on, first released in 1992!

It's before the 500 f4 mentioned so really old, I considered buying it haha

Yes it is the one in ffordes and didn't realize it was that old

Yep cetainly an "inexpensive" price but that lens bayonet looks well used plus I had a look on Flixation's site and they dont list it as a Servicable Item.
