I've had my 400d for a few months now and have decided I really enjoy taking landscapes, macro and architectural (well derelict buildings)shots. Is there a lens that I could buy that would enable me to do all three? If not I would like to buy a macro lens and would appreciate some help making the decision. I know someone will ask what my budget is but not sure just want to see what's available first.

Well it really does depend on your budget lol.

For your needs you want something wide, so perhaps a EFS 10-22mm, EFS 17-85mm or perhaps a EF 28-135mm if you want longer range.

If your looking to spend more than a 17-40 f/4 L would be good. I have one myself, excellent lens.

Hiya, I have the 100mm USM Macro and find it a pleasure to use but it's not a cheap option. If you're close enough to me, you're welcome to try it before buying.

Gary :)

Thanks for the help and advice guys. I will do a bit of research into the lenses you've mentioned :)

If you money is a bit tight the Sigma 17-70 would do a good job of covering all three. It's wide enough for most of your landscapes and architecture needs and has very good close focussing abilities, not genuine Macro but will do a job.

Thanks Alex2001 and PapaLazarou will add these to my list for researching :)

I'd stay away from anything as long as the canon 100 and sigma 150. They are undeniably great macro lenses, but you'll have a hard time doing anything architectural with those two. I've heard a few make mention of the Sigma 17-70, and for my two pence (cents) I'd say the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 is great value for money, although not sure how it performs at macro levels...

The tamron 17-50 is great for the 350/400D I'd definitely recommend it, plus it's 2.8 so it's good with lower light, I've just sold one. I'd try and stay under 20mm at the wide end because the crop factor of the 350/400D is bad news for landscape lovers

If you can stretch to it then the 17-55EFS f2.8 IS is probably about the sharpest lens you can get in that range at the moment, its not L build quality, but it beats the 17-40 f4L into 2nd place in most reviews ive read.

Thanks for the advice guys you've all given me lots to think about and a bit of research to do :)
