I have recently acquired a very nice lens: 28mm f3.5 Enna Munchen MC Macro- Ennalyt. The condition is what I consider to be good and all functions operate as they should, there is one major problem and that is try as I might I cannot obtain a clear image.

I have to the best of my ability checked the front and rear optics and they look to be in good visual conditions so I am guessing it is something inside the lens. Can anyone help with some advise as to what options are available to help in this situation.

Thank you if you can help as I would not wish to give up on such a nice lens.

Richard.

Usually, if you cannot see any nasties then there aren't any Richard, which leaves you with a couple of options I can think of initially... either you are not getting the right focal distance (I mean you would not be albe to focus, so not a good image, rather than not a clear one), or someone has had the beastie apart and one of the elements is in the wrong position/orientation (again, a focus issue though). Finally, you could simply have degraded coatings/surfaces.

So, kind of begs the question are we talking bad focus or bad image?

Thanks for your replies, I am almost certain that it is not bad focus and clarity is the problem?

Here are two photo,s one close and one distance, also a shot of the front and back of the lens and to my limited knowledge it does not look like it has been worked on.

Many thanks.

Ooo - they look good! That sort of image is why I like the Bilora Radix! I think if you want digital quality images then you are going to have to use digital quality lenses Richard, it may just be me but those pics really do look OK. I mean yes, a little soft but just stop it down a little...

... a quick wb adjust and sharpen does a big difference Richard, not that I would do it if it were my lens!

Thanks for that Arthur, so basically are you saying leave well alone?

Yup - or sell it to me :D

You will most definitely has first dibs, as I already owe you a big one.

Are you using the lens in your D70?

If so then the chip in the camera may be showing the flaws in the lens. Simple the chip out resolves the lens (I think thats right :suspect:).

However I agree with Arthur, they do look very good and have a certain charm to them and yes I would leave well alone :)

just a thought!! I had a old nikon 2.8 lens that would not focus very well , like yours..had me baffled for weeks, because it was ok, turned out that the front lens had worked loose , I tightened it up , and all was ok , check to see if the front lens is tight?? mark..

Yes, thanks for that, have checked and all is OK.
