Evening all,

First post so please be gentle.

Last couple of years ive been getting more into using my camera. Went to africa on safari earlier this year and realised the limitations of my 300d and lenses. (got some great shots though)

As such I now have a 600d 18-55 kit lens, sigma 70-300 (think this isnt a great one)

Ive just booked a trip to iceland and want to invest in a lens or Possibly 2, to capture the whales, wildlife and landscapes.

Any advice on what to get? Been looking at the 10-20mm sig or canon and possibly a new telephoto lens, not to sure on this one as there seem to be so many..

cheers

barney

Budget maybe 1000 max for both lenses and filters however im not sure how much an improvement I can get on my sigma zoom with my budget.

If your budget can stretch to it and you are prepared to go second hand then the Canon 70-200L is my advice for zoom lens. Again I would suggest the Canon 10 -22 for the wide angle. You should be able to pick up both of these within your budget if you go for second hand not new.

They are the two lenses I was looking at depending on which version of the 200 (been looking at the f4 non is).

Am I likely to see a huge improvement over my sig 70-300? Recently tried the 50mm 1.4 canon, quality was superb however wasnt sure when I would use it...

Feel like I missed out on my last trip on some of the pictures due to body speed and lens quality, however it was all I could afford at the time.

Do the converters work well with the 200 l lens as I think I would like closervto 300 as min zoom length some times.

The non IS f4 is nice and sharp, the IS version even better. Will hold its own with any zoom. But the IS version is £6-700 second hand for a really nice one. They both take a 1.4 well. Never used a x2 on one.
