I have recently purchased a Sony Alpha A300 and was fancying a 50mmF1.4 lens when i priced it up in jessups at £220 the salesman commented that nikon had just introduced a similar lens that retails at around £90.
I then got to thinking when looking at lenses on e bay i have seen lens adaptors eg nikon to sony minolta pentax etc etc.
Does this mean i could buy lenses other than Sony and fit it to the my sony alpha the adaptotrs appear to cost around £40. Has anyone had any expierience of these adaptors?
The sony lens range seems limited and expensive at the moment although the salesman reckons they will start to come down over time.

You can get adapters for mpost cameras that will allow you to fit M42 mount lenses and you can get some real beauties such as the Pentax Takumar range for well under the ton as long as you dont mind manual focus, have a look on ebay

The downside is manual focus which can be a bit of a pain on a crop sensor DSLR as the viewfinder is a bit small and dark and they lack split screens etc. If I were you I'd look for a Minolta AF 50mm f1.7 on the bay you should be able to pick one up for less than £100 and it will be fully compatible with your body.

The second hand market was one of the things that eventually persuaded me not to go with Sony for my DSLR as it's quite limited and the new lenses are definately not cheap, there have been consistent rumours of them reviving some of the classic Minolta lenses like the 50mm f1.7 and the 70-210 F4 but these seem to be more wishfull thinking than fact.
