These two with 16GB storage look budget worthy.

Anyone using Lenovo and if so which size............a good buy or not?

Have not had either of those particular models but have several lenovo laptops and tablet pc's and the thinkpad 10, all been very good buys and reliable, don't think lenovo make much bad stuff tbh apart from perhaps their first android thinkpad tablet and that was still a robust allbeit underpowered and quickly obsoleted bit of kit.
Don't think you will go far wrong with either option inho.

Thanks for the feedback.

I surmise that newer models are due but the WiFi version of the A8 is a snip but the one that includes 3G though double the price is possibly still a bargain........but as I can use my Moto G phone as a WiFi hotspot I could always roam using that setup.

Both do get decent reviews.

I have an A8 and it's a piece of crap. It works ok in that you can read and watch stuff on it but It's very laggy and very unresponsive at times. It has to be restarted every few days to get it to work properly again. I had a Nexus 7 2013 and I smashed the screen on it and I bought this as a kind of stop gap as the specs looked ok but it's pure rubbish compared to the Nexus.

I'm going to get rid of it and get a Samsung Tab S instead - I know it's more expensive but it's worth it if you can afford it as the difference is like night and day.

Ah! thanks for the user insight.....quite a damning experience but if the Amazon reviews are anything to go by yours is at the minority end of the scale. I wonder if such a spectrum is down to "Friday" machines and/or the wide range of types of users.

I'll hit the pause button on buying for the moment.

It all depends on what the users are used to I suppose. Lots of people love the Moto G but I hated it as it was so slow compared to a high end phone like a Nexus. It's horses for courses and for the price you cant really expect it to be a top end device. If you have your expectations correct then it's probably a great device! Like I said, it serves a purpose, if all you want to do is read books or watch movies then it's perfect. But any kind of editing, word processing etc as well as browsing media intensive websites is a disaster on it and makes it very laggy to use sometimes.

Even more bad news. It's the Lenovo S8 I have which is the model above the A8. Dear lord dont touch the a8 if it's worse than the thing I have.

A10....... Brilliant tablet. Not had any issues. Is fast and the Dolby sound is astonishing.......

So the S8 updated to Lollipop over the weekend and its like someone gave me a new Tablet!! It's way more responsive now with very little lag switching apps etc. Very pleased with the difference. Don't get me wrong, its nowhere near a high end Tablet for speed and usability but its perfectly fine now for browsing and watching movies!

Thanks for the insight, though I am reluctant to go that bit bigger.

Ah! an update has 'refreshed' it. I think my Moto G is now Lollipop though I am unsure whether I have noticed too much difference from prior os (KitKat?). But you update is very welcome and my primary use would be web browsing and email. Though in the browsing that would include the likes of TP so though screen/resolution not in the same league as say an iPad mini retina I would hope decent enough?

The screen is fine - obviously there is better out there as this is a budget tablet but it's perfectly acceptable for viewing photos and videos.

To be honest, you wouldn't see a huge difference anyway in resolution between high end and mid range tables as the viewing screen is so small at 8". The colours do seem more muted on the Lenovo (thats a personal thing and they might be fine for others) but to me they are over saturated as well on an iPad and especially so on a Samsung device. There isnt really any middle ground with these things but thats not what they are designed for anyway. If you want to view print ready photos with perfect colours then you need to use a calibrated monitor and not an 8" tablet!

Just to update :)

I plumped for the A8 and so far looks good and the only immediate note on regard to build quality is that the case creakes a bit I.e. no as rigid as say am iPad. But that arguably is no surprise.

Once running it wanted to do an update...... turned it was a build update as still v4.4.2 KitKat. I googled and discovered that though for all the fact that it is still a current model it is not destined to get Lollipop. No sign on the Lenovo forum that that might change???

Still, as I said so far so good :)

Bit late now but after Superfish and at least two other recent compromisies to customer privacy/security, I wouldn't recommend Lenovo products to anyone.

On some recent Lenovo laptops, BIOS embedded software installs a rootkit even after a clean Windows install.

Oh! does what you are referring to affect Android in tablets?

Can you summarise the risks?

Fwiw I have installed Eset security on it though only the free version, it came with an installer for Norton and I have avoided Norton on my PC for ages for reasons associated with resource hogging and glitches.

Box Brownie,
No it doesn't apply to tablets. I just don't have any faith in the company - so what I wrote was for the benefit of anyone else considering a Lenovo product.

Ironically, I'm writing this on a 3 year old Lenovo IdeaCentre PC which has, to date, been absolutely faultless.

Ah! phew.

Thanks for the insight. PC wise I have built my last few but have bought laptop(s) though never a Lenovo......the last have been a HP and Dell in that order.
