Hi all,

I was wondering if there is any real difference in light output from the lencarta 90cm folding octo and the 120cm.

I shoot families in a studio environment and location fashion and need something that is easily erected.

I will be using the oct as a main light. obviously 120cm would be better but can i get away with saving a little and getting 90cm ?

looking for people who use them.

Paul

Softboxes are all about relative size and light fall off, and both are a product of distance from subject.
For any given level of softness, you can get pretty much the same softness from a smaller softbox close to the subject as from a larger softbox a little further away. The falloff of light from the closer softbox will be greater simply because it is closer, and more light will reach the subject from the closer softbox for the same reason, but there isn't all that much in it.

What I must tell you though is that there are quite a few brand new softboxes, both folding and non folding, I have to actually physically get them to my studio and photograph them before they can go onto the website and this is bound to take a few days - but you might want to hang on until you've seen what's available...

There are other new products too.

Thanks Gary, ill hold off purchasing until i see what you have. will they be up on site soon ??

Some of them are already on the site, less photos. Others aren't, because I haven't been told the prices yet - say a week to get it all done.
Don't hold me to that, it isn't within my control:)

I think after looking the 120mm folding oct is the one.

In normal usage, the difference is more about how the shape and softness of the lighting changes as the size of the softbox changes.. as opposed to the output

you can always cover a larger softbox to make it appear smaller, but you cant make a smaller one bigger
