Lencarta - Good starter kit?

Looks like a VERY good price for what you're getting. I'm very interested in hearing any responses as it also looks like exactly the set up I want........providing the quality is ok and the heads aren't going to pack up after a few uses!

Hello

Looking to start some personal studio work at home for some practice
Depending on the results, I may want to start earning some part time income

My question is:

Would this be a good starter kit as it includes everything I will need bar remote triggers?

Cheers
That kit (all kits) include the radio trigger set too, so you won't even have to buy that if you're working at home.

You might want to buy extra radio receivers though if you do event photography, to stop other people's flashes from setting off your own ones - but at home they won't be needed.

I looked at this kit on a recommendation up at Focus on Imaging as I wanted my first lights. Very well made and excellent value for money. To have things like the triggers included in the kit is a really nice touch.

The controls onj the back inspire confidence in being quality parts.. I had also looked at the 150Ws Interfit kit and the switches felt awful and cheap. They did not give me the confidence they would last.
I would highly recommend them..

I have a Sony A450, do I need anything additional?

Yes you will, because Sony cameras have a non standard hotshoe.
You'll need a Sony to standard ISO hotshoe adapter, available from Sony for a lot of money or from Ebay sellers for a lot less.

I think it is ridiculous that manufacturers still fail to use the standard Hothsoe design.. Is there any reason for ths commercially?

Come on Sory sort it out!

Cheers guys

Have ordered the kit from Lencarta and also the hotshoe :)

Hopefully my kit lens will be ok for some decent shots until i can get a Tamron 17-50mm

Kit lenses vary, some are pretty good when stopped down a bit - so you may not need to ugrade it for studio use, which typically uses fairly small apertures

Sounds ideal for what I need then. So long as it doensn't break, is easy to use and its expandable in the future I'm happy.

Shame my credit card is temporarily at its limit!!!!

Congrats on your choice. I hope you will be pleased with it. Lighting is a minefield of choices, and one that many of us can easily make mistakes with, so it is always good to check forums such as TP. The they can be kept minimal...

have fun with and hope you share some results with us..

Having seen the basic Lencarta 200w kit as Iain (icnoble) bought one I must say that it is rather good in comparison to say the kit I bought previously the Stable Imaging kit. It really does feel like a pro setup.

Does that Lencarta kit come with a carry case for the heads, etc?

Sorry, I meant the one in the OP's post; should have specified. :)

Yes, if you click on the post there is a list of the stuff in the kit. It is the same bag.
