Legacy lens. Anyone with a Cosina (or Cosinon-W) 28 mm lens??

Morning all
Any help very much appreciated.
I have a rather splendid & uncommon (or it used to be splendid) Petri 28mm F2 lens on a Pentax mount.
I bought it with some other Pentax bits afew years ago and put it in the cupboard. Went to use it and noticed some fungus/dirt and so sent it off for a professional clean.
In the post, on the way back to me, the front element was smashed. Completely unuseable.
Given that Petri lenses are not 'ten a penny', my digging revealed that Cosina probably made the lens and it may be a re-badged Cosinon-W. I cannot be sure though.
My plan (if it can be called that) is to see if I could pick up a broken/dusty/for repair Cosina and use it as a donor for the front element.
My problem is I have no idea if the Petri/Cosinon connection is correct and whether it has to be a F2 donor lens or whther I could get away with a F2.8 (much more common).
Common sense tells me that the F2 front element will be larger in size than a F2.8 but now I'm starting to question myself.
Are there any fellow member who have a Cosina/Cosinon-W 28mm lens and would be willing to measure the diameter of the front glass - from the inside of the retaining ring (or beauty ring - whatever its called)?
If the internal width is about the same as mine, then I may just take a punt one one at auction.
Thanks for any help.

Just a thought - might be an idea to give West Yorkshire Cameras a call https://wycameras.com 0113 246 0868. As well as a wide selection of film cameras and lenses, they have a wealth of knowledge and might be able to advise.

hi Stephen
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I’ve dealt with Yorkshire cameras in the past and found them helpful and very fair on prices.
Hadn’t thought to give them a call about this, but it’s a great idea. Thank you.
It seems such a shame for the lens to be sitting in a cupboard, unused.
If I can’t get it fixed then I’d rather it went to someone who could genuinely use it as a donor for spares/repair.
Regards
Stuart

I think it's unlikely you'd be able to construct a working frankenlens from two lenses with different maximum apertures, which may well have quite different formulas, and I suspect your common sense is right about the larger diameter of the front element on the faster lens - the designers probably wouldn't use a larger element than they needed for the slower lens. There's a Cosinon-W f2 on ebay at the moment, but it's £99.99...

Thanks for this. I‘m as sure as I can be that I will probably need an F2 lens for the repair but as you’ve highlighted, they aren’t cheap - Cosinons come up from time to time and Petris once in a blue moon. I’ve also seem them priced at £75-100. Just not an option, especially when I have Distagon and Minolta 28mms in the cupboard.
I just thought it would be sensible to rule out any chance of the glass from a 2.8 being the right size.
There must be someone, somewhere who’d want it for spares - just not sure I’ve got the energy to try and find them!
