Afternoon!

I suggested to a friend (not on here) that she try back button focus on her Canon 750D. She quickly found that she was stabbing herself in the right eye with her thumb knuckle as she uses her left eye to look through the viewfinder. The issue was the same regardless of which of the two possible buttons was assigned to focus duty.

Is there a sensible way to make it work?

Maybe a vf extension (if there is such a thing). Even though I use my right eye, I find that my thumb is squashed against the top of my cheek, which is fine until I release the button, which then moves the camera.

Wearing glasses works for me. :D

I use left eye and BBF on a 7D2 and 5D3, and previously on a 7D, and have no problem whatsoever. My only difficulty with using the left eye is on the 5D3, where my nose moves the joystick, and hence the focus point, around.

Perhaps if she drops her wrist so get thumb is below her eye?

I use left eye,no problems for me,can't say I notice what my thumb's up to.

Ditto and no issues. Tried using the right eye several times over the years but old habits die hard, just cant do it.

Use it upside down! then they can use the Left hand to take shots and Right to zoom and focus.

My right eye is next to useless, so i'm forced to use my left. I back button focus on a Sony A7 - so if I can do it on that, your friend should have zero issues on a 750d!

I have same issue with nose moving focus point! I've got left master eye! So I'm right handed but play snooker/pool and shoot guns left handed but play darts right handed( badly) and don't bother with BBF!

I have no problems with my nikon D800e or my sony A7R2 (except for the occasional nose grease on the screen!!).

Yep I'm in same boat. Right eye not much use for anything. I've never had any issues with bbf on a dslr though I cannot use it on my olympus em5ii though the natural button to use it would be quite awkward whichever eye you shoot with.

One thing I have noticed when playing with a couple of recent range finder style cameras is that your your nose can do interesting things with the touch screen.
