Just a heads up to anyone looking for a Big Stopper at the proper price and not the ebay over inflated prices. I ordered 1 from Dale Photographic a month ago and just got a mail saying they are now in stock. I know they had many on back order and also many on the waiting list but give them a call in case there are some spares.

just gave them a call. They had two left in stock which I've just bought one of.
Seems like they have one left.

Thanks for the tip off.

Disappointed in these, as I phoned them a couple of mths back leaving my details they promised me they would call me as soon as they had stock, they failed.

As much as i would love one of these, i just can't bring myself to pay £100 for a 4x4 inch piece of perspex, it's bloody outrageous really, i'm sure their must be a much cheaper alternative

They are glass not perspex :)

I suppose it's no different than £56 for a strap or £15 for a stofen defuser.
It's our own fault. We pay it!

Big stoppers are glass, not perspex.
I ordered one from Dale earlier this week and think that's why the postie left a card when I was out this morn. :(

Ok didn't realise that, still the same for me though, £100 for a piece of 4x4inch dark glass, outrageous, perhaps i need to visit a glazers, or take a piece out of the coffee table :D

The problem is the tint and trying to minimise it in a 10 stop filter

The cheap SRB screw on one I have isn't bad and gives a feint red tint, the Lee BS apparently gives a slight blue but the Lee is a quality bit of kit and the mounting system very good

I love landscape photography and like to get as much right 'in camera' without relying on PP too much apart from slightly tweaking a few levels here and there, so good filters are a definite must

One thing to remember is the Lee residuals are excellent and you will recoup the majority of your initial outlay when/if you sell them, second hand BS's go for the same money as new ones sometimes more!

I can see where you are coming from and did question this myself. In the first instance i went for the cheaper options thinking its just the same a tinted piece of glass, WRONG. So after going through 4 various options that gave me nothing but head aches, i decided to take the chance and spend the extra, albiet expencive.
Since then i have had some decent results, bad results being down to my poor control. The blue tint that sometimes arises can be sorted with in PS.
The only filter that came close was a B+W screw in filter. But would be interested in some knowledge on the Hitech.

Using the coffee table glass would be no use if you intend to try and cut your own, table top glass is toughend, if you try and cut that it will just shatter :bonk:.
